photo The STEP participants (20/year) also complete on-line research which will be presented to the STEP group as well as their parents at the end of the program. In year two and three of the program, two to three students who participated in the STEP program in the previous year are designated as "Science Scholars." The Science Scholars have the opportunity to complete state of the art scientific research with a faculty mentor over the summer and during the school year. STEP participants will have the opportunity to interact with scientists in academia, government, and industry who can share with them some of the secrets to being successful as scientists. The program will hire two high school science teachers (per year) who will learn and apply their experiences back in their school curricula. This Science and Technology Enrichment Program will help build a permanent "bridge" between the high schools and NCAT by developing science clubs that will offer services such as year round tutorial programs, student mentors, and the opportunities to promote science throughout their communities.
